Job Purpose: The Marine Accountant is responsible for managing the financial activities related to the fleet of vessels, including financial reporting, and compliance with maritime accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Reporting:
Prepare and maintain accurate financial records for each vessel.
Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
Reconcile accounts and ensure accuracy of financial transactions.
2. Cost Control:
Monitor and control vessel operating expenses.
Identify areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
Review and approve invoices related to vessel operations.
3. Compliance:
Ensure compliance with international maritime accounting standards and regulations.
Prepare and file tax returns and other statutory reports as required.
Liaise with external auditors during audits and provide necessary documentation.
4. Accounts Payable and Receivable:
Manage accounts payable and receivable processes for the fleet.
Ensure timely payment of vendor invoices and collection of receivables.
Reconcile bank statements and manage cash flow.
5. Financial Analysis:
Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support decision-making.
Evaluate financial performance of vessels and identify areas for improvement.
Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analysis as required.
Qualification Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is preferred.
Experience in maritime accounting or a similar role within the shipping industry
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of international maritime accounting standards and regulations
